Anxiety and Depression

Research-Based Treatment for Adults

I specialize in treating disorders of anxiety and depression, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Major Depressive Disorder. I use a blend of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness as the preferred, evidenced-based treatment modality for working with these types of mood disorders; also known as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)This means that I typically take a very active stance during the therapy session.  For example, I teach my clients about the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior; help them identify self-defeating thoughts; develop new ways of thinking; and guide them through real-world behavioral experiments to challenge and correct negative belief systems.

Similarly, I teach his clients how to “be with” negative feelings and troublesome thoughts rather than struggling with them, becoming entangled, and feeling worse.  This is often accomplished by training my clients in the art of mindfulness meditation and related restorative practices such as yogic breathing and self-compassion techniques.
